Uvod

Muzika ima značajnu ulogu u životu mladih ljudi i predstavlja jedno od najvažnijih sredstava izražavanja emocija, stavova i ličnog identiteta. Kroz različite muzičke žanrove, mladi pronalaze način da iskažu svoje mišljenje o društvu, ali i da se poistovete sa određenim vrednostima i stilovima života. Među najuticajnijim muzičkim pravcima posebno se izdvajaju rok i metal muzika, koji su kroz decenije predstavljali simbol bunta, slobode i individualnosti.

Cilj ovog seminarskog rada jeste da se ispita kako rok i metal muzika utiču na kulturu mladih i proces formiranja identiteta, sa posebnim osvrtom na mlade u Srbiji. Takođe, rad se bavi poređenjem klasičnog thrash metala iz 80-ih godina i savremenog alternativnog roka, kako bi se uočile razlike u porukama i uticaju na današnje generacije.

Rok muzika nastala je sredinom 20. veka, kao spoj bluza, džeza i kantri muzike. Tokom 60-ih i 70-ih godina rok postaje glas mladih koji se protive društvenim normama i autoritetima. Bendovi poput The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin i Pink Floyd ostavili su snažan trag u muzičkoj istoriji i uticali na razvoj novih podžanrova.

Metal muzika se razvija iz hard roka krajem 60-ih i početkom 70-ih godina. Karakterišu je snažni gitarski rifovi, energični ritmovi i često mračne ili društveno angažovane teme. Tokom 80-ih godina nastaje thrash metal, čiji su najpoznatiji predstavnici Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth i Anthrax. Ovaj stil muzike bio je brži, agresivniji i direktniji u porukama, često se baveći temama rata, nepravde, manipulacije i unutrašnjih borbi.

Savremeni alternativni rok i metal, poput muzike benda Skillet, donosi nešto drugačiji pristup. Iako zadržava snažan zvuk, ovaj pravac često kombinuje rok sa elektronskim elementima i fokusira se na lične emocije, borbu sa strahovima, veru i nadu.

Analiza tekstova pesama

Tekstovi pesama u rok i metal muzici imaju važnu ulogu, jer često prenose snažne poruke i podstiču na razmišljanje. Thrash metal bendovi iz 80-ih godina koristili su tekstove kako bi kritikovali društvo, politiku i rat, ali i kako bi izrazili osećaj besa i frustracije mladih tog vremena.

Sa druge strane, savremeni alternativni rok, kao što je Skillet, više se fokusira na unutrašnje stanje pojedinca. Njihove pesme govore o borbi sa depresijom, gubitkom, strahovima i pronalaženju snage u sebi. Na taj način, muzika postaje sredstvo emocionalne podrške mladima koji se suočavaju sa izazovima savremenog društva.

Analizom tekstova može se zaključiti da i stariji i savremeni bendovi imaju snažan uticaj, ali se razlikuju u temama i načinu obraćanja publici.

Uticaj rok i metal muzike na mlade

Rok i metal muzika imaju veliki uticaj na formiranje ličnog i grupnog identiteta mladih. Kroz slušanje određenog muzičkog pravca, mladi se često povezuju sa vršnjacima sličnih interesovanja, čime se stvara osećaj pripadnosti.

Ova muzika utiče i na stil oblačenja, način razmišljanja i stavove prema društvu. Suprotno čestim predrasudama, rok i metal muzika ne podstiču nasilje, već mladima pružaju način da izraze emocije i oslobode se stresa. Koncerti i muzički festivali dodatno jačaju osećaj zajedništva i povezanosti među fanovima.

U Srbiji, rok i metal scena ima dugu tradiciju i značajan uticaj na mlade, naročito kroz domaće i strane bendove koji promovišu autentičnost i slobodu izražavanja.

U okviru istraživanja mogu se koristiti sledeće metode:

• analiza tekstova pesama i muzičkih spotova

• poređenje stavova mladih koji slušaju klasični metal i savremeni alternativni rok

Rezultati istraživanja mogu pokazati na koji način različiti muzički pravci utiču na emocije, ponašanje i stavove mladih.

Zaključak

Rok i metal muzika imaju značajnu ulogu u životu mladih i predstavljaju važan faktor u procesu formiranja identiteta. Iako se stilovi i poruke menjaju kroz vreme, osnovna uloga ove muzike ostaje ista – pružanje glasa mladima i mogućnost izražavanja emocija i stavova.

Poređenjem thrash metala iz 80-ih godina i savremenog alternativnog roka može se zaključiti da oba pravca imaju snažan uticaj, ali na različite načine. Dok je thrash metal više usmeren na društvenu kritiku, savremeni alternativni rok naglašava lične i emocionalne teme. Uprkos razlikama, oba žanra ostaju važan deo kulture mladih u Srbiji.

Music plays a significant role in the lives of young people and represents one of the most important ways of expressing emotions, attitudes, and personal identity. Through different music genres, young people find a way to express their opinions about society and to identify with certain values and lifestyles. Among the most influential music genres are rock and metal music, which for decades have symbolized rebellion, freedom, and individuality.

The aim of this seminar paper is to examine how rock and metal music influence youth culture and the process of identity formation, with a special focus on young people in Serbia. The paper also compares classic thrash metal from the 1980s with modern alternative rock in order to identify differences in messages and their influence on today’s generation.

Development of Rock and Metal Music

Rock music originated in the mid-20th century as a combination of blues, jazz, and country music. During the 1960s and 1970s, rock became the voice of young people who opposed social norms and authority. Bands such as The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd left a strong mark on music history and influenced the development of new subgenres.

Metal music developed from hard rock in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is characterized by strong guitar riffs, energetic rhythms, and often dark or socially engaged themes. During the 1980s, thrash metal emerged, with famous bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax. This style of music was faster, more aggressive, and more direct in its messages, often dealing with themes of war, injustice, manipulation, and inner struggles.

Modern alternative rock and metal, such as the music of the band Skillet, take a slightly different approach. While maintaining a powerful sound, this genre often combines rock with electronic elements and focuses on personal emotions, inner struggles, faith, and hope.

Analysis of Song Lyrics

Song lyrics play an important role in rock and metal music because they often convey strong messages and encourage critical thinking. Thrash metal bands from the 1980s used lyrics to criticize society, politics, and war, as well as to express anger and frustration felt by young people at the time.

On the other hand, modern alternative rock, such as Skillet, focuses more on the individual’s inner state. Their songs talk about struggles with depression, loss, fear, and finding strength within oneself. In this way, music becomes a form of emotional support for young people facing challenges in modern society.

Through lyric analysis, it can be concluded that both older and modern bands have a strong influence, but they differ in themes and ways of addressing their audience.

The Influence of Rock and Metal Music on Young People

Rock and metal music have a strong influence on the formation of both personal and group identity among young people. By listening to certain music genres, young people often connect with peers who share similar interests, creating a sense of belonging.

This type of music also influences clothing style, ways of thinking, and attitudes toward society. Contrary to common stereotypes, rock and metal music do not promote violence but provide young people with a way to express emotions and release stress. Concerts and music festivals further strengthen the sense of community and connection among fans.

In Serbia, the rock and metal scene has a long tradition and a significant influence on young people, especially through domestic and international bands that promote authenticity and freedom of expression.

Research Methods

The following research methods can be used in this study:

• surveys or interviews with young people about their music habits

• analysis of song lyrics and music videos

• comparison of attitudes between young people who listen to classic metal and those who prefer modern alternative rock

The results of the research can show how different music genres influence emotions, behavior, and attitudes of young people.

Conclusion

Rock and metal music play an important role in the lives of young people and represent a significant factor in the process of identity formation. Although styles and messages change over time, the core role of this music remains the same – giving young people a voice and allowing them to express emotions and attitudes.

By comparing thrash metal from the 1980s with modern alternative rock, it can be concluded that both genres have a strong influence, but in different ways. While thrash metal is more focused on social criticism, modern alternative rock emphasizes personal and emotional themes. Despite their differences, both genres remain an important part of youth culture in Serbia.

Bend Elder – spoj teškog zvuka i psihodeličnog roka

Rock muzika je tokom decenija postala mnogo više od pukog muzičkog pravca. Ona predstavlja način razmišljanja, bunt protiv ustaljenih normi i potrebu za izražavanjem ličnih emocija. Iz rocka su se razvili brojni podžanrovi, među kojima je i metal, poznat po snažnom zvuku i dubljoj simbolici. Upravo u toj širokoj muzičkoj slici pojavljuju se bendovi koji nisu nužno mejnstrim, ali ostavljaju snažan uticaj na svoju publiku.

Jedan od takvih bendova je Elder, američki rock sastav koji kombinuje psihodelični rock (muzika sa atmosferičnim, “hipnotičkim” elementima) i doom metal, podžanr metala sporijeg tempa i teškog zvuka. Iako nisu globalno poznati kao neki veliki rock bendovi, Elder ima vernu bazu fanova širom sveta.

Metallica – četiri decenije bunta, zvuka i bezvremenskog rokenrola

Američki rock bend Metallica već više od četrdeset godina zauzima posebno mjesto na svjetskoj muzičkoj sceni. Osnovan 1981. godine u Los Angelesu, bend je od samog početka pomjerao granice heavy metala, spajajući sirovu energiju, tehničku preciznost i društveno angažovane tekstove. Njihova muzika nije bila samo glasna i brza, već i sadržajna, što ih je izdvojilo od mnogih savremenika.

Grupu su osnovali bubnjar Lars Ulrich i gitarista i vokal James Hetfield, a ubrzo su im se pridružili gitarista Kirk Hammett i basista Cliff Burton. Burton je imao veliki uticaj na rani zvuk benda, unoseći muzičku širinu i kompleksnije aranžmane. Njegova tragična smrt 1986. godine u saobraćajnoj nesreći tokom evropske turneje duboko je potresla članove benda i fanove širom svijeta.

Uprkos ovom gubitku, Metallica je nastavila dalje, a basista Jason Newsted preuzeo je Burtonovo mjesto. Danas Metallica važi za jedan od najuspješnijih rock bendova svih vremena, sa desetinama miliona prodatih albuma i nebrojenim koncertima širom svijeta. Njihova dugovječnost, energija i uticaj na nove generacije muzičara potvrđuju da Metallica nije samo bend, već kulturni fenomen koji i dalje oblikuje savremeni rock i metal.

Metallica – Four Decades of Rebellion, Sound, and Timeless Rock

The American rock band Metallica has held a special place on the global music scene for more than four decades. Formed in 1981 in Los Angeles, the band pushed the boundaries of heavy metal from the very beginning, combining raw energy, technical precision, and socially engaged lyrics. Their music was not only loud and fast, but also meaningful, which set them apart from many of their contemporaries.

The group was founded by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, soon joined by guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Cliff Burton. Burton had a significant influence on the band’s early sound, bringing musical depth and more complex arrangements. His tragic death in a bus accident during a European tour in 1986 deeply shocked the band members and fans around the world.

Despite this loss, Metallica continued forward, with bassist Jason Newsted taking over Burton’s role. During the 1990s, the band experienced major commercial expansion, particularly after the release of the “Black Album,” which introduced Metallica to a broader audience and brought them worldwide fame. Although some fans criticized the change in sound, the band demonstrated a willingness to evolve and explore new musical directions.

Albums such as Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, and …And Justice for All are now considered foundations of modern metal. Metallica’s lyrics often deal with personal demons, psychological struggles, war, addiction, and social injustice, making their songs universally recognizable beyond a purely musical context.

Metallica is also known for its strong relationship with fans, as well as for controversies, including legal battles with digital services in the early 2000s. Nevertheless, the band managed to overcome these challenges, further solidifying its position in the music industry.

Today, Metallica is regarded as one of the most successful rock bands of all time, with tens of millions of albums sold and countless concerts around the world. Their longevity, energy, and influence on new generations of musicians confirm that Metallica is not just a band, but a cultural phenomenon that continues to shape modern rock and metal.
