Američki rock bend Skillet zauzima posebno mjesto na savremenoj rock sceni zahvaljujući spoju alternativnog rocka, hard rocka i elektronskih elemenata, uz snažnu emotivnu poruku. Bend je osnovan 1996. godine u Memphisu, a predvodi ga pjevač i basista John Cooper, koji je tokom godina postao zaštitno lice i glavni autor Skilletovog prepoznatljivog zvuka.

Za razliku od klasičnih metal bendova, Skillet se afirmisao kroz moderniji pristup rock muzici, kombinujući teške gitarske rifove sa melodičnim refrenima i orkestralnim aranžmanima. Album Comatose iz 2006. godine predstavljao je prekretnicu u karijeri benda, dok je Awake iz 2009. godine donio globalne hitove i značajno proširio njihovu publiku.

Unlike classic metal bands, Skillet rose to prominence through a more contemporary approach to rock music, combining heavy guitar riffs with melodic choruses and orchestral arrangements.
